 My name is Laura Brake and I’m 36 years old. I live in Bristol with my 3 school aged children.In the summer of 2007 I was diagnosed with a malignant melanoma on my lower leg which was removed – along with a large chunk of my leg! Following this I happily got back on with life as normal. However, some months later the melanoma unfortunately returned to lymph nodes in my groin which were also removed. I now knew that this was getting more serious and took control of my life in everyway possible. I took to researching my illness on the internet and found many treatments both conventional and alternative that could help me, both in the UK and abroad. I changed my diet and my whole lifestyle believing that this cancer was not going to beat me – I was going to beat it!! I enrolled on a drug trial for a year at my local Oncology Centre in Bristol hoping this would be the treatment that worked for me. Unfortunately it was not. As, Easter of this year 2010, I had some more devasta  ting news that the melanoma had spread to a mole on my back and was told then that there was nothing more that could be done for me conventionally so to have a staging scan to see how long I had left to live. I reluctantly took this scan to find more devastating news (I don’t know how much more one person can take) that there were deposits of melanoma in my liver, spleen and also in a gland in my chest! But, and a very big BUT, I am not ready to give up – I have plenty of fight left in me and want to fight this “thing” and be here for my children. I want to see them graduate, get married, have children of their own and be part of all that, which is the reason behind my appeal. There are well researched and advanced treatments available in Europe that have more than helped others in the exact situation I find myself in and I am certain will help me, however they cost enormous amounts of money, which unfortunately I don’t have. Hence my reason for this appeal – I am desperate to survive this and be a success story but I do need your help. I am grateful for any amount anyone can afford but please help me and give me the chance I want more than anything in the world - to be here for my 3 lovely children and also to help others.I will never, ever give up fighting for my life – please help me achieve my goal. ANY DONATIONS MADE WILL BE  DIRECTLY USED TO FUND TREATMENTS AIMED AT KEEPING ME ALIVE AND BEATING THIS DISEASE.Thank you very, very, much for taking the time to read my Appeal.
