Our One-to-One programme aims to provide people with cancer with personalised support from diagnosis, through treatment, and if necessary, beyond. The scheme has been run as a pilot, and we are now working to take this out to a wider public. Please click on the links below to read the Executive Summary Report or the Full Report of the pilot.
A diagnosis of cancer typically throws a person into a totally unfamiliar and highly stressful situation filled with unanswered questions. Simply finding out where to look for answers can be beyond someone who is seriously unwell and may be psychologically and spiritually challenged by their situation.
Our Yes to Life One-to-One will be there to help you find the answers you need and to support you through any difficulties you are likely to face.
A One-to-One will listen to your fears and concerns, aiming to concentrate on minimising the daily pressures caused by the trauma of a cancer diagnosis and maximising your focus on healing and recovery.
Your One-to-One will be a volunteer who has had personal experience of cancer, either themselves, or through a close family member. Additionally, they will have received a thorough training based on the Cancer Lifeline Programme created by Dr Rosy Daniel of Health Creation.
They will understand how cancer can disrupt the lives of families affected by the illness and will know what resources may be helpful to you.
Our One-to-One will work with you on an individual basis, and at your level of need, recognising what is most important to you at the time.
 |
They will be there to:
- LISTEN - to hear your fears and concerns about your diagnosis in complete confidence
- INFORM- to help you to access the information you need to make informed choices
- EMPOWER - to support you to make treatment decisions that are right for you, drawing on the best of both orthodox and complementary & alternative medicine
- PREPARE - to help you prepare for treatment - psychologically, physically and practically
- SUPPORT - to help you to find solutions to everyday practical problems such as organising the school run or re-arranging work commitments
